9/14/2019 Have you ever read the children's book about the basketball playing Commander-in-Chief?Read NowCHICAGO, September 25, 2019 -- Author Jim Blissitt III will release his latest children’s book, Whatever Happened To The Boy Who Played Basketball All Night?. This book looks at how a young boy goes from being sad and lonely to becoming one of the most influential leaders we have ever known, the 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Obama! Equipped with a basketball, his favorite sneakers and a will to succeed, young Obama used lessons from his favorite sport to make healthy decisions about fitness, relationships and education. Whatever Happened To The Boy Who Played Basketball All Night? is the story of a child learning to cope with the absence of parents and the feelings of isolation that often stunts the growth of many of our children. Obama spent very little time with his biological father before his untimely death in a tragic car accident. This terrible loss would plague Obama throughout the duration of his life. Basketball and education together became a solace for Obama as he sought healing. In the late 1970s, young Obama played on the junior varsity and varsity teams at Hawaii’s Punahou School, eventually winning a state championship in 1979. Obama came off the bench his senior year to help the Buff and Blue win the state championship. Although Obama was pretty good on the court, it is clear he was a far better student. School coach Chris McLachlin once said, “[Obama] would carry his books in one hand and his ball in the other.” Author Jim Blissitt III tells the story of a studious child Obama who studied long hours before stepping on the court. Coach McLachlin also said, " [Obama] lived across the street from school and before classes he’d shoot baskets on the outside courts, then at lunch he’d shoot more baskets, then I’d have him for three hours, then he’d go home, eat supper, and then be outside again shooting baskets.” The 44th president has long been known as a diehard basketball fanatic. Not only did he grow up playing and loving the sport, but while president he actually constructed a basketball court in the White House. Obama continues to use the sport of basketball for leisure and relaxation. Basketball can be a great tool if we take control of it and make sure our young people are focused on the correct things. We must take every chance possible to remind children of the best attributes of sports, including teamwork, sportsmanship, exercise and mentorship. President Barack Obama found each of these things in the sport of basketball on his path from Hawaii to Washington D.C. Expose your children to this book while they are still young and these lessons will remain with them for a lifetime. Preorder your copy today!
